Yesterday afternoon, Blue Waters cruise line ran into problems with pirates in Somalia. This is not the first time something like this has happened because pirates have been around for years and years and tend to be plentiful on those waters. The cruise ship was scheduled to dock not even an hour before they were hi-jacked. The captain was taken hostage at gunpoint, and all of the ships residents were instructed to follow the pirate’s orders. Captain Jason Calver spent 7 hours tied up in a locked room, and claims that these pirates were vicious allowing him no food or water the entire time.
The pirates instructed the crew members to enter every room and bring back all of the toothpaste they could get their hands on. These pirates had complained that there was nowhere nearby where they could get any and they were suffering from severe gum infections. These infections were similar to gingivitis causing a lot of pain, and it was apparent that these people were in pain. 6 weeks prior they claimed there ship was hit by a wave taking most of the food and supplies they had with it during a large storm. The only choice they claimed to have been to rob the next ship that came into their sight, which happened to be Blue Waters Cruise ships.
The Somalia coastguards had no idea this was going on and apologized to the cruise ship members for any inconvenience they may have caused. Toothpaste was stacked in 47 suitcases, taken from the residents, and carried over to the pirate’s ship by the cruise ship crew. One woman was caught trying to hide her extra white Colgate total and was nearly beaten to death. In total there were 17 pirates, only 3 of them being women. Each pirate took a part in the ordeal and if they are caught will all be arrested. By the time the authorities had gotten there, all of the toothpaste, even several bottles of Listerine, had been stolen and a captain terrorized. The pirates escaped, but Somalia authorities assure the public they will be caught and arrested.
